Immersive credentialing program for teachers
Since 1980, Barrie has been a leader in Montessori education for teachers. The Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies offers Montessori teacher education programs each summer, which lead to American Montessori Society (AMS) teacher certification.
The Institute was founded in 1980 to address the extreme shortage of certified Montessori teachers, and to share the unique insights of two of Dr. Montessori’s closest collaborators, Dr. Claude Claremont and his wife, Francesca. Today, we offer Montessori teacher education programs leading to American Montessori Society (AMS) teacher certification.
The Institute is a center of innovative curriculum development. We are committed to an exceptionally high level of intellectual excellence in Montessori teacher education. We encourage students to explore new dimensions in Montessori education.
If teaching in a Montessori classroom is in your future, we encourage you to join us for your training. It is an inspiring way to spend your summer!
The Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS), accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education Commission (MACTE), and approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
Accredited with non-traditional Montessori age groupings.
Graduate Credits Available
Through a partnership with Trinity Washington University in Washington, DC, Institute graduates may be granted academic credit in Trinity's Master of Arts in Teaching Program. By paying a nominal additional credit hour fee, adult learners admitted to Trinity's program may receive up to fifteen credit hours of graduate credits.
We must be taught and we must be willing to accept guidance if we wish to become effective teachers.
