International Student Admission

Barrie School has welcomed students from a wide array of countries, including: Angola, Austria, Cambodia, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Moldova, Palestine, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam.

Program Overview

  • Barrie School currently offers a robust distance learning program during COVID-19. This includes recorded classes to respect student time differences, as well as weekly check-ins with their teachers and advisors.
     
  • In addition to the required coursework, students take an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) class each year. There, they read and learn about American culture as an extension of the core Humanities classes.
  • Barrie's International Student Program Coordinator plans events throughout the year that include pumpkin carving during Halloween, a Chinese New Year celebration, a trip to Hershey Park, and two overnight destinations.
  • Each year, an International student is chosen to be the International Representative to the Student Government Association (SGA).

Tuition & Fees for 2021-22

Tuition:

  • Grades 6, 7, and 8: $31,430
  • Grades 9 through 12: $34,210

Tuition includes all books.

Additional Fees

  • International Student Fee - $4,000
  • I-20 processing fee - $250

Alumni Profile

Jishen Wang

Jishen Wang '16 currently attends Emory University as a Business major and is excelling in his coursework, and is active in student government.

While at Barrie, Jishen:

  • Completed AP Calculus AB, and AP Statistics, followed by Multivariable Calculus (a class usually taken by Sophomores in college).
  • Achieved very high scores on the TOEFL as a result of our interdisciplinary Humanities Program which combines the study of English, history, and other social science disciplines.
  • Participated for four years on the Varsity Basketball team and was Captain during his Senior year.
  • Was a member of the cast in several school plays and musicals, and held a lead role in "Hairspray."

Successful College Placement

The Director of College Counseling works with International students on college admissions and supports them in:

  • Identifying standardized test preparation programs
  • Developing a list of colleges and universities
  • Applying for summer programs
  • Completing the Common Application and/or Coalition Application
  • Writing personal and supplemental essays
  • Registering for the TOEFL examination, and
  • Submitting Declaration of Finance forms to prospective colleges and universities.

Deadline

The application deadline for first round consideration for Fall 2021-2022, is January 18, 2021. Decisions are released the first week of March 2021. Applications received after the deadline will be processed on a rolling basis until spaces are filled.
