In order to maintain the safety and wellness of the Barrie community, we require that the following community members seek immediate medical care to be cleared before returning to Barrie:
- people who have traveled to or from any of the affected areas,
- people who have had close contact with someone who is suspected to have Coronavirus, or
- people who present with symptoms of illness within 14 days of travel from China or exposure to people who have recently traveled to that area.
We want everyone to be aware that we know of no individuals in our school community who meet any of the criteria above -- but out of an abundance of caution, we are instituting these procedures to minimize the risk for all of our families and employees. We trust you agree that erring on the side of safety is the best course.
Due to the nature of the illness, assessment of symptoms cannot be conducted in the Barrie health room, but must be done in a healthcare facility where isolation precautions can be implemented to prevent any potential exposure to others. The CDC recommends calling the emergency room or health department before arriving so that they can provide specific instructions.
Barrie's administrative team and school nurse will continue to closely monitor the situation and work with the appropriate agencies to ensure that we are up to date on the latest developments and advisories. We will be sure to provide additional updates as needed.
Thank you in advance for your partnership in helping to keep our community healthy, and for understanding that the health and safety of all students, staff, and Barrie community is our top priority. Please be sure to share this information with your family, caregivers, and visitors who may have traveled recently.
