Day Camp provides a comprehensive mix of traditional camp activities, perennial favorites, and fun new offerings. All campers enjoy on-site swimming, sports, nature, arts and crafts, dance or movement, music, storytelling, cooperative games, dramatics, canoeing, and a daily morning gathering we refer to as "Flagpole." 

Lower Camp: Pre-K and Kindergarten

Lower Camp (LC) groups work out of a home base where they keep personal belongings and change their clothes for activities such as swimming. This space also contains age-appropriate activities and accessories for self-guided play, rest period, and snack time. LC's report directly to their home base and typically do not attend morning Flagpole unless there is a special event. Each LC group is led by a lead staff member supported by a team of caring counselors. The average group size is 18. 
Please note: All LC campers must be fully potty-trained.

• Lower Camp B, C, D: Rising Pre-K and Kindergarten
• Lower Camp on the Go: Rising Kindergarten

Middle and Upper Camp: Grades 1 - 8

In addition to the Lower Camp activities, Middle and Upper campers are also offered archery, American Sign Language, karate, and video production. Activity periods run 30 minutes in length. Most activities are scheduled once a week except for swimming which is scheduled daily. Day camp groups are organized by the grade a camper will enter in the fall. The average group size is 18.

• Upper Camp Seniors: Rising Grades 7 & 8

Specialty camps combine a half-day concentration in a specific interest area with a half-day of traditional camp activities; some target a specific age group or require a two-week minimum enrollment. Detailed descriptions can be found in our comprehensive Summer Camp Guide.

Studio Art and Digital Video Production combine in the morning for day camp activities. Martial Arts and Naturalists combine in the afternoon for day camp activities.

During Special Event Days, all Specialty Camp campers will remain on Barrie’s campus to participate in the days activities

Leadership Training     

• Leader-In-Training Program 
  Entering Grade 9  | Offered Weeks 1-8
  *LITs are required to enroll in the program for a minimum of two weeks.

Program Cancellation Deadline

Should a program have to be cancelled, families will be made aware by May 15th.  Those campers will automatically be enrolled in our general day camp program.  Families will also be eligible for a full refund for the cancelled week should Barrie Camp cancel the program your camper is enrolled in. Families are not eligible for a refund if a program is scheduled to occur.

Barrie Camp’s leadership training programs provide a direct and immediate, hands-on, experience for young people ages 14-15.

Participants are trained and guided by the summer Teen Leadership Director through the program, which includes:

• Training activities, discussions on behavior management and child development
• Opportunities to observe, interact with, and benchmark other camper groups
• A broad overview of the many different programs
• Short-term assignments within each division and activity area
• Consideration of special interests where possible when making service assignments

Leader-In-Training Program (LIT)  

For children entering grade 9

The LIT program bridges the summers between being a camper and becoming a staff member. Participants receive a purposeful introduction to the role and responsibilities of being a camp counselor combined with first-hand experience. A portion of the day is dedicated to leadership activities and shadowing camp staff.  The rest of the day is reserved for the enjoyment of traditional camp activities. 

Counselor-In-Training Program (CIT)

For children entering grade 10

CITs are full-time volunteer staff assigned to assist camper groups and get real world, hands on experience. An interview is required for applicants who are not former campers or LITs. Individuals are expected to possess the same qualities and sense of responsibility as paid camp staff. CITs are expected to work from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm for a minimum of four weeks.

Submit a Staff Application to be considered for a CIT position. 

Warm Up Week (June 15 - June 18) provides a smaller, condensed program for campers who are already on summer break set during a week when many of the local public school systems are in session.

With longer activity periods and combined groups, Warm-Up Week provides a fun and relaxed way to ease into summer and get excited for the full camp season ahead! Campers will enjoy our classic lineup of core activities, including swimming, archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, and more. Please note that there are no scheduled Specialty or Super Camps during this week.
