The Future: Our Campus Master Plan

In June of 2008, the Board of Trustees and the Barrie community approved a Master Plan to meet the growing physical needs of our campus.  The plan, guided by the school’s mission statement, addresses the short-term needs of the school while also providing direction for future improvements.

Phase One will include a new Lower School building, parking lot and renovation of the 4th 5th and IAMS Building for use by the Middle and Upper School.  Phase One may also include Lower School Gym and improvements to the athletic field(s).

HCM Master Plan Drawing

In September, 2008, a Design Task Force was formed.  After a competitive proposal process including three architectural firms, the Board approved the Design Task Force recommendation and selected Hord Coplan Macht, Inc. (HCM) for primary architectural services.  This firm demonstrated significant experience with Independent Schools, and LEED certified or “green” design in addition to presenting a competitive proposal.

HCM is the firm who completed the Master Plan.  They have made a significant investment of time getting to know our school and understand the importance of AIMS Action Plan recommendations as they relate to the campus and physical plant.

Next steps include:

  • Develop a Phase One project timeline;
  • Select a civil engineering firm
  • Launch the permit and special exemption processes required by Montgomery County – 18 – 24 months from start;
  • Assess economic factors affecting Independent Schools;
  • Assess Barrie’s readiness and fund raising capacity for an 8 – 10 million dollar capital campaign.
