  • Sienna School Workshop

    Improving Reading Comprehension

    Saturday, January 12, 2013, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm


    This workshop will address the research behind what impacts comprehension and present effective multisensory strategies to improve comprehension such as the Modified, the Directed, Pre-Reading Approach. The workshop will include effective hands-on activities such as Brain Gym (for teaching directionality), visualizing, vocabulary-building techniques and other instructional tools that can help create strong readers who understand and remember what they read.

  • "Pushed Too Hard", a Talk with Alfie Kohn

    On Saturday, January 5, Alfie Kohn, renowned expert on human behavior, education, and parenting will present a talk entitled Pushed Too Hard: Parenting and Teaching in an Achievement-Crazy Culture. The event will run from 4:30 to 6:30pm and take place at the Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre in Arlington, VA. Tickets cost $10 and are available at www.msnv.org/kohn.

  • Raising Your Challenging Child

    This winter, from January 13 to March 20, Dr. Dan Shapiro will present a 10-session program is for parents of children (ages preschool through elementary school) with challenging behaviors.
