Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies (IAMS)

The Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies was founded in 1980 to address the extreme shortage of certified Montessori teachers, and to share the unique insights of two of Dr. Montessori’s closest collaborators, Dr. Claude Claremont and his wife, Francesca.

"Montessori’s educational formula is a simple one consisting of but three elements: the prepared adult, the prepared environment and freedom with responsibility."

The Institute offers Montessori teacher education programs leading to American Montessori Society (AMS) teacher certification at the following levels:

  • Infant and Toddler Montessori Education (ages birth – 3)
  • Early Childhood Montessori Education (ages 2.5 – 6)
  • Elementary Montessori Education
    • Elementary I (ages 6-9)
    • Elementary I-II (ages 6 – 12)

The Institute is a center of innovative curriculum development. We are committed to an exceptionally high level of intellectual excellence in Montessori teacher education. We encourage students to explore new dimensions in Montessori education.

If teaching in a Montessori classroom is in your future, I encourage you to join us for your training. It is an inspiring way to spend your summer!
