The Barrie Camp Transportation
Information for Enrolled Families: |
Our round trip, pick up point, Bus Routes designed to bring campers to and from camp quickly, with as few stops as possible. The camp’s buses are driven by Barrie’s year-round drivers and a few drivers hired just for the summer. All buses are immediately reachable by the camp staff by cell phones.
During Warm-up Week some routesare combined and pick-up and drop-off times change slightly.
One way service is not immediately available, but usually does become available on some of our buses after we are at capacity. If space remains on a bus once camp is full, we will try to accommodate one-way riders.
ROUTES, PICK-UP TIMES, AND DROP-OFF TIMES:
A few weeks before camp opens, a letter is sent to families who are using the transportation service. The letter confirms the camper’s bus route, pick-up time, drop-off time, and driver’s name. All routine questions regarding the bus service should be directed to the camp office, 301. 576.2816.
Occasionally, minor adjustments need to be made by the camp with respect to bus routes, pick-up times, drop-off times, or specific bus stop locations. Care is taken to make these adjustments with the least amount of disruption to your schedule and the bus route, itself. We will contact you by phone ahead of time to inform you of any changes.
PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF PROCEDURES :
For the sake of safety, and the fact that the buses run on a tight schedule, we need campers to be supervised at the bus stop before the bus arrives in the morning, and need to have a parent or guardian ready to greet campers when they get off the bus in the afternoon. In the morning, buses remain at each stop only so long as it takes for all campers at the stop to get on the bus. In the afternoon, buses remain at each stop until each rider has been greeted by a parent or guardian. The bus does not have time to wait in the morning for late campers, or in the afternoon for a greeter. In the afternoon, if someone is not at the stop to greet a rider, the rider will remain on the bus, the driver will continue on to the next stop(s), complete the route, and then return to camp with the rider. Parents are required to come to Barrie Camp to pick up their child.
We are concerned about 1) releasing riders to persons other than parents and guardians and 2) children who might walk home un-escorted from the drop-off point. To release a rider to someone other than a parent or guardian, you must forward written authorization to the camp. The same is required if your child is to walk home from a bus stop without escort.
BUS SAFETY RULES FOR CAMPERS AND PARENTS :
The Camp has the right to immediately suspend transportation service if a camper or parent fails to follow any of the following rules:
- Parents are not permitted on the bus to assist with seating or to find their child. Discipline issues will be handled by camp staff.
- There are no “saved” seats.
- Seat belts (if available) must be worn at all times.
- Riders must be seated, facing forward, while the bus is moving.
- While arriving at their departure point, riders must remain seated until the bus has come to a complete stop.
- No bad language, shouting, horseplay, seat-switching, eating, or drinking.
- All rules that apply at camp also apply on the bus. Older campers must respect the needs and space of younger campers.
- Headphones must be used with radios, CD players, and MP3 players.
- Riders must listen and respond to the Driver and camp staff on the bus. The Driver is in charge and responsible for everyone’s safety.
- Campers are expected to know and follow all of the above rules.
