Campers choosing a Specialty Camp program must enroll in either Session I (Weeks One to Four) and/or Session II (Weeks Five to Eight). Specialty Camps are four-week programs and must be taken in their entirety. If additional weeks in camp are needed, campers can be enrolled in weeks of the Regular Camp program, either before or after a Specialty Camp session.
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for the Regular Camp program, campers must have their 4th through 14th birthday in 2008 - born in the years 1994 through 2004. Age requirements for Specialty Camps vary and are noted on the Specialty Camp Programs information sheet.
AVAILABILITY: There is usually room in the Regular Camp program and Specialty Camp programs through the month of March. However, Riding Camp and Lower Camp groups can often fill earlier, some years as early as January. Applications for all Specialty Programs that are received prior to January 16, 2008 are put on hold. On January 16th, the number of applications received for each specialty program is compared to the number of spots available. If the number of applications received exceeds the number of spots available, a lottery is held to determine which applications can be accepted. From that point forward, all applications for both the Regular and Specialty Camp programs are processed on a first come-first served basis. Families are immediately notified if a camper cannot be accepted. Wait lists are maintained for programs that are full until May 15, 2008.
ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE: On the Camper Application form, 1) enter information in all fields, 2) check off the weeks or sessions being chosen, and 3) calculate tuition and fees. Payment in full must be received with each application. We accept cash, checks, and the following credit cards: VISA, MasterCard, and Discover. Camper Applications can either be mailed, faxed to 301-576-2805, or completed online at www.barrie.org./camp/. In addition to an application, the camp must receive a newly completed Barrie Camp Health History, Examination and Emergency Information form. Campers are not permitted to begin camp unless this form is received by the due date, accepted by the camp, and on file in the camp infirmary. Forms used by other schools, camps, or doctors’ offices are not acceptable. The due date for the form is May 31, 2008 for campers beginning camp through Week Four and June 30, 2008 for campers beginning Week Five. This form is sent to families after a camper is enrolled.
CONFIRMATION OF ENROLLMENT: A packet of information and forms is sent to parents whose children have been enrolled about two weeks after an application has been received. The packet includes forms that must be completed prior to the start of camp, including a Barrie Camp Health History, Examination and Emergency Information form.
WITHDRAWALS: If a camper is withdrawn from camp and the withdrawal is confirmed in writing by May 15, 2008, the camp will refund or credit all tuition and fees except for the tuition amount for one week of camp. In the event that a camper is unable to attend camp due to a serious and/or extended illness or injury that has been confirmed in writing by the child’s physician, the camp will refund or credit tuition for the number of consecutive days absent after the first five consecutive days of absence. There are no other refunds, credit, or remission of fees once the application has been submitted.
EXTENSIONS: If a camper enjoys camp and would like to stay longer, we almost always can find room in camp during later weeks. Please refer to the camp rate chart to calculate charges for weeks added after March 31.
HOURS OF OPERATION: The camp day is from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Arrival time runs from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM. The daily schedule of camp activities begins at 9:00 AM and continues until 3:30 PM. At 3:30 PM all campers have a popsicle and prepare to depart. Dismissal time runs from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM. If your camper needs to come earlier or stay later, refer to the following section regarding Supervision. Camp is closed on July 4.
BEFORE AND AFTER CAMP SUPERVISION: Supervision is available for an additional fee either in the morning from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM, and/or in the afternoon from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This is an unscheduled, quieter time, offering campers a chance to ease into their day or to catch their breath afterwards. For all but our campers in Lower Camp, the pool is open for a free swim from 4:30 PM to 5:45 PM.
CAMPER INSURANCE: Our camper insurance covers a camper's medical expenses after an accident or injury, up to the limits of our policy. Claim forms are obtained from the camp office.
