The 2006 Barrie School Homecoming weekend (October 6 and 7) almost did not happen as heavy rains moved into the area, but Mike Kowalchick, Athletic Director, decided to forge ahead despite the weather!

The games were all exciting nail bitters! On Friday, October 6,

  • Barrie’s Middle School girls’ soccer team got off to a great start with a hard fought, well played, 2- 0 win over the Maret.
  • The Middle School Cross-Country meet started with a large number of runners form several area schools making their way through the woods on The Barrie School campus. Our determined team ran well and ended the race with respectable times!
  • Our Middle School boys’ B soccer team was up next and struggled on what had now become a muddy field, losing 7-0 to Georgetown Day School. The Middle School girls’ volleyball team wrapped up Friday’s events with a game against Sandy Spring Friends School. They won the first game of the best of three matches 25-17, but despite serving well and playing with heart, lost the last two games.

The rains kept coming on Saturday, October 7, but there was no stopping us now!

The varsity teams played with the girls’ team up first. Playing their finest all-around game of the year, they won 5-0 over Montrose Christian School. At the same time, the varsity girls’ volleyball team was playing in the comfy confines of the Barrie Center gym. They played well and were determined to win on their weekend, but, alas, came up short of the winning side, losing to Montrose Christian School.

The varsity boys’ soccer team wanted to duplicate the girls’ soccer teams’ success. In a hotly contested, back and forth game, Montrose Christian scored for a 4-3 win.

Many thanks to all the visiting schools who participated, despite the inclement weather! Thank you, too, to the BCA for providing the good food and spirit. We were extremely pleased to see so many alumni return for the weekend.

Congratulations and thanks to Mike Kowalchick, Dan Conway, the athletic staff and the BCA for a successful Homecoming weekend. GO MUSTANGS!
