Welcome to The Barrie School
The Barrie School is an independent school located on a beautiful
45-acre wooded campus in Silver Spring, Maryland, only minutes
away from the nation’s capital. The Barrie School
is ideal for
students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade,
seeking
individual attention with a low student to faculty ratio.
Barrie’s rigorous academic program
encourages students to develop their own individual interests
and talents through hands-on
experiential learning. Students search beyond the obvious
for answers, explore topics and issues from many perspectives,
and share their own ideas with peers and teachers in a diverse
and engaging community.
The Barrie Lower School offers a Montessori curriculum with a multi-sensory approach to learning, enabling students to reach beyond their grasp, put theory into practice, and ask pertinent questions. The Barrie Middle and Upper Schools provide a challenging and supportive environment, preparing students to become successful college graduates, active citizens, and leaders in the global community.

Faculty and staff at The Barrie School are highly educated and talented professionals who maintain their academic excellence through continuous staff development. The Lower School faculty are credentialed Montessori educators with extensive experience. Barrie’s teachers are scientists, artists, playwrights, and athletes in their own right.
Parents are invited to explore the many academic and extra-curricular opportunities that Barrie has to offer by arranging an admission tour. We encourage families applying to the Lower School to attend this initial tour. Middle and Upper School families are also encouraged to attend this tour along with the applicant. The tour offers visitors the opportunity to experience The Barrie School in action, visit our equestrian center and see the natural beauty of our campus.
