Admission Criteria
The Barrie School provides a challenging academic environment, opportunities for hand-on learning experiences in a diverse and nurturing environment. Barrie students acquire the knowledge and skills essential for independent thinking, resourceful problem-solving, active citizenship and lifelong learning.
Age Minimum
The Barrie School follows the State of Maryland Department of Education’s age eligibility requirements for admission at kindergarten and first grade levels. These requirements mandate that ALL entering kindergarten students must be five years old and all first grade students must be six years old by September 1st of the year the students enter kindergarten or first grade.

Application Deadline and Fee
Applications are currently being considered for Fall 2008 - 2009. There are limited spaces in all grades. The application fee is $100 and must be submitted with the application. To access all application forms, click HERE.
Admission Decisions
Our Admission Committees make all decisions with regard to admission. The Committees are composed of faculty and administration members. Decisions for first-round consideration are made in late February. The Barrie School follows AIMS and AISGW recommended notification dates (mid-March). Factors, considered in the decision-making process, include (but are not limited to) the following:
• applicant transcript
• test scores and results
• recommendations from teachers
• student evaluation visit
Priority Applicants
The Barrie School does not give priority to any applicant
based on their affiliation with any organization, association,
religion, or other groups.
Application decisions are based on a variety of considerations and are not influenced in any way by a financial aid inquiry.
