Admission

Welcome from the Barrie Admission Team

Thank you for your interest in our extraordinary environment for learning. Barrie Montessori serves students from age 18 Months through Grade 5. Barrie Prep serves students from Grade 6 through Grade 12. We provide a seamless transition between our Montessori and Prep programs. Barrie’s rigorous academic program encourages students to develop their own individual interests and talents through hands-on, experiential learning. Students search beyond the obvious for answers, explore topics and issues from many perspectives, and share their own ideas with peers and teachers in a diverse and engaging community.

Barrie is an independent school located on a beautiful 45-acre wooded campus in Silver Spring, Maryland, only minutes away from the nation’s capital. We invite you to visit our campus to experience a compelling sense of student engagement. You may also schedule a tour of our campus by contacting our admission office at 301.576.2800 or at admission@barrie.org.

The Application Process

We are pleased that you are considering Barrie. Our application process will allow you to become familiar with our school and help you determine whether Barrie is the right school for your family. Please click on each of the steps below to find out more information.

1. Visit Us
If you have not already had a tour of our campus, we recommend that you attend an upcoming Admission Event, or contact us to schedule a tour at 301.576.2800 or admission@barrie.org.

2. Complete an Online Application
Our application is online only and can be found here. You will be able to create an account and track your status through the admission season. The application is submitted with a non-refundable $50 fee. You will receive a confirmation email once your application is submitted.

Applications are due on January 19, 2018 to be eligible for first round decisions. Rolling admission will follow, as space is available.

3. Submit Supporting Documents
Teacher recommendations vary by grade. Once you have submitted your application, you will be able to send the appropriate teacher recommendation by entering the teacher's email address where prompted on the home screen of your account. It will be listed under "Action Items."

The Transcript Request form can be downloaded from your "Action Items" as well. We require records from the previous 2 years. This is sent to the registrar of your current school and they will send it back to Barrie directly by email, mail, or fax.

    4. Schedule
Student Visit Once the application is submitted, applicants for Primary 3 through grade 12 will be contacted by an admissions team member to schedule required student visits. During the visit, your child will spend time in class with students and teachers in the grade for which they are applying. Visits vary in length depending on age of student. We value the student visit in lieu of third party testing. During the admission process, testing may be recommended on an individual basis.

Parent Interviews are required for all applicants. These are typically scheduled on the same days as student visits, but are flexible. Interviews typically last about 30 minutes.

    Admission Decisions
The office of Admission and Financial Aid will notify you when your application file has been completed. Admission decision letters will be mailed the first week of March. Following first round admission decisions, applications will be considered as space is available.
