A Global Education
Barrie’s environment supports all facets of a student’s
learning experience, including their academic, social, athletic,
and artistic development, and the Barrie curriculum helps students
to become thoughtful, engaged global citizens. The low student
to faculty ratio provides a unique opportunity for each student
to grow and develop in an individualized program.
Over 80 countries are represented on the Barrie campus.
The diversity of the Barrie community gives our students first-hand
exposure to other cultures, languages, and religions, which
contributes significantly to their growth, knowledge and especially
to their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The
diversity of the Barrie community is a key element in the successful
development of our students as responsible global citizens.
Barrie’s close proximity to Washington, D.C. offers students
many unique opportunities. They witness firsthand how a democracy
works through visits to the Capital, the Supreme Court, and
the White House. They also expand their knowledge through visits
to Smithsonian museums and international institutions such as
the World Bank and foreign embassies, allowing them to meet
diplomatic representatives from all over the world.
Washington also offers Barrie students opportunities in the
arts, dance, and theatre with its world-class museums, libraries,
and artistic venues. Barrie is located close to some of America’s
most cherished historical sites and monuments, including Mount
Vernon, Civil War Battlefields, the Washington Monument, and
the Vietnam War Memorial.
"At
Barrie, my children encountered people from many different
cultures with different views of what it means to be a
citizen of America and of the world. From this, they learned
not only to be respectful of the views of others, but
to strive to understand and appreciate those views, even
if they did not feel compelled to agree."
