Welcome from the Head of Barrie Prep

Welcome to Barrie Prep. During my career, I have been fortunate to work in strong independent, international, and public schools. These experiences have inspired in me a respect and passion for excellence. At Barrie Prep, I have found a professional home that shares that respect and passion. Our students, teachers, and parents work together to define a shared expectation of excellence and we collaborate to reach it. And although excellence is our goal, we recognize the value of giving one's best. Through experiences like these Barrie Prep students build characteristics of tenacity, perseverance, and willingness to take intellectual risks that will reward them throughout their lives.

By engaging in real world, authentic work, we prepare students for college and careers while building a life-long love of learning. Our unique project-based learning curriculum, based on the Buck Institute, allows for authentic inquiry and creativity in a rapidly changing twenty-first century world.

At Barrie Prep, learning is a partnership, not a top-down process in which the student merely receives information from the teacher. Similarly, faculty partner with parents to create a supportive environment in which students can stretch themselves as students and young leaders. Classes are a vibrant mix of discussion and small group collaboration and individual work, which prepares the middle and upper school student for college and beyond. We have opportunities to benefit by working with our youngest learners on our Montessori campus, our adult learners in the Institute and Teaching Fellows program, and our summer students through our nationally recognized Camp.

Please visit us to see how we can challenge, guide, inspire, connect, and contribute to the world. I look forward to meeting you soon!
