Visual and Performing Arts
'If you can imagine it, you can create it'
Barrie’s curriculum offers students a variety of creative
pursuits, from the visual arts to drama. Barrie students have
the freedom and support to discover their talents and pursue
their own interests. Small classes and enthusiastic teachers
allow even the most introverted student to explore the creative
arts and discover a hidden talent or interest.
Barrie’s Visual Arts faculty strives to provide innovative
approaches to engage talented students in creative fields such
as art, photography, and ceramics. The Art Cottage houses the
Studio Arts Program, offering a darkroom for students to develop
film and print their pictures. Open studios provide students
the opportunity to work on their individual projects in a creative
environment. The Barrie faculty is always present, assisting
students and offering their support and insight.
Barrie graduates have attended such prestigious art schools
as The Corcoran College of Art and Design, The Art Institute
of Chicago and the highly regarded graphic design program at
Cornell University. National art institutions always include
a visit to Barrie when recruiting top students for their programs.
The Drama Program is a well-established extra-curricular program
at Barrie, producing plays and musicals that often involve over
one-quarter of the student body in the performances and technical
aspects of the productions. Barrie’s Drama faculty work
with students of varying degrees of skills and interests, offering
classes such as Great Playwrights, Basic and Advanced Acting,
Shakespeare, Directing, and Dialects.
