  • Advanced Art Project: Video and Music by Eve ('14)

    During this trimester, I was assigned in my advanced art class to participate in an art contest. Sunny explained the “Color Maryland Green” contest, which featured competitions in drawing pictures in specific age groups, along with submitting a video, including all age groups (K-12). I decided to create a video because it interested me more than a painting or drawing. (read on to see the full video on YouTube)

  • Preview: Extended Study Week (ESW)

    Each spring, the students and faculty of our Middle-Upper School take a break from regular classes, working on- and off- campus on an exciting journey of learning and exploration. A highlight of the student experience and a time-honored tradition at Barrie School, Extended Study Week (or ESW) 2012 will include Buddhism in Thailand, CSI: Barrie, Dolphins, Reefs, Mangroves, Oh My!, and New York as You've Never Seen it - just to name a few.   • Coming Soon: Barrie Camp Open House!

    Barrie Camp is more than a great escape into the outdoors. It is a summer experience where children learn to respect self, others, and the environment. Join us on campus at one of our Open Houses so that our Camp Director and staff can share with you the values and program that has made the Barrie Camp a DC tradition for over 50 years.

  • Kitchen Chemistry Is Heating Up - Spots Still Available!

    Back by popular demand this Spring is Kitchen Chemistry, a fun collaboration between Barrie and University of Maryland's Human Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL). Starting in February and continuing through May, KC students (age 9-14) will explore the science of cooking and engage in scientific inquiry through creating and perfecting recipes. Sessions will take place on Wednesday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. Space is limited, and will disappear quickly; please email admissions@barrie.org to register or click here for more information.

  • Barrie School Senior Class Presents: "As You, Like, Like It"

    Continuing a Humanities 12 tradition, on Friday the class of 2012 performed "As You, Like, Like It" - a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's "As You Like It." Read on for an introductory note from Humanities 12 teacher Bryan Taylor, and for a program with photos and synopses of each act.

  • Planning for 2012-13 and Beyond: 21st Century Task Group

    Parents and students are invited to join Charlie and members of the 21st Century Task Group to discuss Middle-Upper School curriculum and how we continue to embrace improvements to benefit learning at Barrie. We want to share our work and hear your ideas.

  • Music Students Release New Publication: "The Barrie Beat"

    This year, several students are taking a new class: Independent Studies in Music. In addition to listening to, analyzing, and critiquing music, one of the course's requirements is that they publish submissions in Barrie Beat, a new monthly publication coordinated by MUS Music Teacher David Dulaney.   • Photos: Bigs and Littles

    After Wednesday's all-school assembly, students from the Middle-Upper School visited our younger students in their classrooms for "Bigs and Littles." A regular part of life at Barrie School, Bigs and Littles gives our learners of all ages a chance to spend some time together at work (and play) in the classroom. Soon, Lower School students will be walking down the hill to join the older students in their classrooms - stay tuned!
