    Barrie School’s Teaching Fellowship Program
Barrie School offers a one-year paid teaching fellowship program for recent college graduates who value service learning and teaching as a career. This program will provide the college graduate a diverse learning environment in the classroom that enhances Barrie’s teaching philosophy of hands-on and project based learning. The program provides the applicant the opportunity to test and develop their teaching ability and style in and out the classroom. The applicant will gain a deeper sense of many responsibilities and joys of the teaching profession and have the support of a mentor teacher. The most promising fellows may be encouraged to apply for a full-time position for the following year if a suitable opening becomes available. Barrie seeks applicants who are new to the teaching career. We also welcome the applicant to explore our Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies and our Lower School Internship Program (Lower School Montessori Teacher Internship). Teaching fellows are compensated with a stipend and provided health insurance including other benefits.

They will also be expected to encourage leadership projects and contribute to the improvement of Barrie as a vibrant learning community. Candidates with a passion for the environment, global issues, and service learning are welcomed. Please provide areas of teaching interest as well as elective courses of interest.

  • Lower School Montessori Teacher Internship

Barrie School is located outside of Washington DC within one mile of the Metro on a spectacular property with streams, open fields, ponds, forest and stables.

The school is a center of expertise in Montessori education and benefits from a close relationship with Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies (IAMS) which has been preparing Montessori educators for over thirty years and is housed on the Barrie campus. Barrie is one of the few Montessori schools in Maryland to hold full accreditation from the American Montessori Society (AMS). The school seeks candidates interested in being paid interns at the school for SY 12-13 that are enrolled in a program to achieve certification in Montessori teaching at the toddler level, primary level or lower elementary level. Interns are paired with master teachers and are expected to be a full part of the school operation and participate in the duties of all full time staff at the school. Interns benefit from being part of vibrant adult learning community and being on campus with the operation of the Institute. Candidates interested in applying for this paid internship should either be enrolled in a program already or seek enrollment in the Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies. Educators new to the field of Montessori education are encouraged to apply. We encourage candidates with a background in special needs.

Interested candidates need to provide a cover letter and resume and indicate intent to apply to IAMS or enrollment in another accredited teacher education program.
